Abstract

These interim fixes address a security vulnerability found in IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint 10.1.0.1 (10.1 FP1) and 10.1.1.2 (10.1.1 FP2).

These interim fixes provide important product corrections related to security for Cognos Business Viewpoint 10.1.0.1 and 10.1.1.2.

Installation Instructions

These interim fixes can only be installed over an existing installation of Cognos Business Viewpoint 10.1.0.1 (10.1 FP1), or 10.1.1.2 (10.1.1 FP2).

The Cognos Business Viewpoint entries below consist of updater kits to be installed over an existing IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint 10.1.0.1 or 10.1.1.2 installation.

Each updater kit is composed of two separate installs, one for Business Viewpoint Server and the second for Business Viewpoint Client. In order for the updater kit to function properly, both installs need to be completed.

If you have multiple instances of IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint client in your distributed environment, you must apply the Cognos Business Viewpoint Client updater kit to each installation.


Installing an updater kit on Microsoft® Windows® Operating System

1. Change to the directory where you have downloaded the updater kit installation image.
2. Double-click the self-extracting .tar.gz file. The WinZip Self Extractor window opens.
3. Select the option "Use folder names".
4. Click unzip. All files are unzipped to the specified folder.
5. Stop the IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint service.

For both the Business Viewpoint Server and Business Viewpoint Clients installs

1. Launch the issetup application found under the <operating system> folder
For example: under Microsoft® Windows® XP, the issetup application is called issetup.exe and the <operating systems> folder is win32.
2. Follow the install wizard steps.
3. Launch IBM Cognos Configuration for IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint Server.
4. Review the configuration settings.
5. Save the configuration settings.
6. Start the IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint service.
7. Close IBM Cognos Configuration for IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint Server.

Installing an updater kit on Unix Systems

1. Download the appropriate .tar.gz updater kit file using the links in the download package section.
2. Copy the updater kit to the appropriate UNIX® operating system or Linux® operating system.
3. To uncompress an updater kit installation image, perform the following steps:
a. Change to the directory where you have downloaded the updater kit installation image.
b. Use the GNU "gunzip" command to uncompress and the GNU "Tar" command to extract the file.
c. Enter the following command to uncompress the file: gunzip filename.tar.gz | tar xvf – where filename is the updater kit you are installing.

Additional steps for IBM Cognos TM1® Users

For instances of Business Viewpoint Client where an TM1 adapter is also installed:
1. Install Business Viewpoint Client fix as above.
2. Start IBM Cognos Configuration for IBM Cognos Business Viewpoint Client.
3. For each TM1 Adapter, review the existing TM1 version and make changes as required (for example: if you have recently upgraded to TM1 9.5.1).
4. Save and close IBM Cognos Configuration.
5. Go to the BusinessViewpoint Client_location\bin\launchers location and double-click the file generateFiles.cmd.
6. In the folder BusinessViewpointClient\bin\launchers, double-click the file named setupTM1Adapters.cmd. The updated TM1 files and scripts will re-copied to the required directories.
7. Restart the TM1 Server services.

Additional steps for IBM Cognos Planning Users

For instances of Business Viewpoint Client where Business Viewpoint Planning Integration is also installed.
1. Install Business Viewpoint Client fix as above.
2. Install and Configure Business Viewpoint Planning Integration as described in the Cognos Business Viewpoint Installation and Configuration Guide.
