Prerequisites

Prerequisites include:

Version of IBM Installation Manager required: IBM Installation Manager 1.7.1 or later.

Installation Instructions

Review the Installation and Upgrade Guide in the IBM Knowledge Center.

Before installing this fix pack, review the following technote for dependencies and installation requirements: Updating an IBM Rational Team 7.1.x, 7.0.3.x, or 7.0.2.x installation through IBM Installation Manager.

For information on using WebSphere Application Server and IBM HTTP Server version 8.0 with this fix pack, see Installing WebSphere Application Server version 8 for RequisiteWeb version 7.1.3.1 or later or technote 1569987.

There are two options available for updating to this fix pack:

  • Option 1. You can use the Update feature in IBM Installation Manager to update the software from a remote IBM repository. This method requires a connection to the Internet on the computer performing the update.
  • Option 2. If you are behind a firewall or otherwise unable to use the online update mechanism, you can download the file from the update repository, extract it to a local server (creating a local repository), add that repository to Installation Manager in the computers on your network, and using the Update feature to perform the installation.

The steps for these options are described as Options 1 and 2, below.

Before beginning the upgrade, close Rational RequisitePro. If you are upgrading an installation with the Web components (RequisiteWeb), perform the following tasks:

  • Use your Windows Computer Management panel to stop the following services, which are designated as either version 7 or 8:
    • IBM HTTP Server - RationalSDLC
    • IBM WebSphere Application Server - RWP ReqWeb Servlet
  • Copy the catalog.txt file and store it elsewhere in your file system. By default, this file is located here:
    C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\RequisitePro\ReqWeb\projects
  • If you previously specified an alternate installation location, copy the config.txt file and store it elsewhere in your file system. By default, this file is located here:
    C:\Program Files\IBM\RationalSDLC\common\reqwebprofile\installedApps\dfltCell\ReqWeb.ear\ReqWeb.war\WEB-INF\classes

If you previously customized the Rational Web Platform for RequisiteWeb make copies of the config.txt, httpd.conf, ssl.conf and any other files you modified. After you finish upgrading the RequisiteWeb installation, restore the copy of your files to the folders they were previously located.

After upgrading, if you cannot open the RequisiteWeb help, you might need to recreate the cache as described in the technote Unable to open RequisiteWeb help after performing an update.

Option 1. Update online using a remote IBM repository

  1. Open the FTP link for the Rational RequisitePro repository for IM in the download package table in this document. The index page for the repository opens in your browser. Copy the URL that is shown in the browser address field.
  2. Open the IBM Installation Manager by selecting Start > All Programs > IBM Installation Manager > IBM Installation Manager.
  3. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences and click Add Repository. Paste the URL to the update repository and click OK. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
  4. Click Update. The Installation Manager checks for updates. If a new version of Installation Manager is available, you must install it before you can continue the Rational RequisitePro installation. Click Yes at the prompt to update Installation Manager. If your Installation Manager is current, go to step 4.
  5. Click OK at the prompt to restart the Installation Manager. Click Update.
  6. On the Update Packages page, select the package group IBM Rational SDLC and click Next.
  7. Select the fix pack release and click Next.
  8. If prompted, accept the license agreement and click Next.
  9. If prompted, select features you want to install and click Next.
  10. At the Review summary information page, click Update.
  11. When the update completes and you are informed that packages were installed successfully, click Finish to close the Update Packages windows.
  12. Close the IBM Installation Manager.

Option 2. Download the update repository and update locally

  1. Download the repository zip file from the download package table in this document.
  2. Extract the files to a directory on a local server that you want to use as the update repository.
  3. On each computer that has Rational RequisitePro installed, start the IBM Installation Manager by selecting Start > All Programs > IBM Installation Manager > IBM Installation Manager.
  4. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Add Repository. Enter the path to the local update repository and click OK. Click OK to close the Preferences window.
  5. Click Update. The Installation Manager checks for updates. If a new version of Installation Manager is available, you must install it before you can continue the Rational RequisitePro installation. Click Yes at the prompt to update Installation Manager. If your Installation Manager is current, go to step 7.
  6. Click OK at the prompt to restart the Installation Manager. Click Update.
  7. On the Update Packages page, select the package group IBM Rational SDLC and click Next.
  8. Select the fix pack release and click Next.
  9. If prompted, accept the license agreement and click Next.
  10. If prompted, select features you want to install and click Next.
  11. At the Review summary information page, click Update.
  12. When the update completes and you are informed that packages were installed successfully, click Finish to close the Update Packages windows.

Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This is a maintenance release. It contains fixes for client-reported and internally found defects.

Test Results

Definitions

Regression: An error in the Maintenance Delivery Vehicle (MDV) that produces incorrect or unexpected behavior causing a supported feature to stop functioning as designed.
This includes:

  • Coding errors that cause a regression
  • Documentation or packaging problems that cause a regression
  • Errors reported in a new function delivered in a MDV that cause a regression

Incomplete: An error in the MDV has not regressed, but does not work as designed.
This includes:

  • Fixed APARs which did not solve the original problem but did not break anything new
  • APARs reporting documentation errors, such as readme errors, that cause problems applying an MDV but do not lead to a regression

Notes:
  • Regression and incomplete APARs are considered fix-in-error or MDV-in-error
  • Definitions above apply only to valid APARs that result in product fixes (APARs returned as working-as-designed are not assessed for being fix-in-error)
  • Issues in major releases due to new functionality do not apply in this definition

There are no known regressions to report.
