Abstract
Requests fail with a 483 'Too Many Hops' error when running on hosts with multiple IPs and using the custom property com.ibm.ws.sip.sent.by.host
Download Description
PM91501 resolves the following problem:
ERROR DESCRIPTION:
WebSphere application server is installed on host with multiple IP addresses and two hostnames.
xxxxx.ibm.com which resolves to 111.222.333.444
yyyyy.ibm.com which resolves to 999.888.777.666
The custom property com.ibm.ws.sip.sent.by.host is set to yyyyy.ibm.com.
In some cases self addressed requests are not recognized as self addressed and are not removed. As a result, the request is sent to the same address in a loop (to the address in the Route header field). Eventually, the request fails with a 483 'Too Many Hops' error.

PROBLEM SUMMARY:
USERS AFFECTED:
All users of IBM WebSphere Application Server V8.5
PROBLEM DESCRIPTION:
Requests fail with a 483 'Too Many Hops' error when running on multiple IPs and using the custom property com.ibm.ws.sip.sent.by.host
RECOMMENDATION:
None
In some cases when an application installed on a machine with multiple IPs and custom property com.ibm.ws.sip.sent.by.host is set, the request fails with a 483 Too Many Hops error.
PROBLEM CONCLUSION:
We now recognize the server IP to match the custom property com.ibm.ws.sip.sent.by.host value and send the requests out from the proper IP.
