Impact Assessment
Impact Description

This is a service release of Rational Synergy. It contains new features as well as fixes for client-reported and internally found defects.

Test Results

Definitions

Regression: An error in the Maintenance Delivery Vehicle (MDV) that produces incorrect or unexpected behavior causing a supported feature to stop functioning as designed.
This includes:

  • Coding errors that cause a regression
  • Documentation or packaging problems that cause a regression
  • Errors reported in a new function delivered in a MDV that cause a regression

Incomplete: An error in the MDV has not regressed, but does not work as designed.
This includes:

  • Fixed APARs which did not solve the original problem but did not break anything new
  • APARs reporting documentation errors, such as readme errors, that cause problems applying an MDV but do not lead to a regression

Notes:
  • Regression and incomplete APARs are considered fix-in-error or MDV-in-error
  • Definitions above apply only to valid APARs that result in product fixes (APARs returned as working-as-designed are not assessed for being fix-in-error)
  • Issues in major releases due to new functionality do not apply in this definition

There are no known issues to report.

Change History

What's new

Review the Rational Synergy 7.2.1 announcement for the following information:

  • Detailed product description, including a description of new functions
  • Product-positioning statement
  • Packaging and ordering details
  • International compatibility information

Rational Synergy 7.2.1 includes the following enhancements:
Cache server
  • A new cache server component improves the client-side performance for users who work in remote co-located teams. Day to day operations such as copy, update and sync projects become faster.
  • Using cache server to serve static files takes the load of Synergy main server, thus improving the performance of core server as it is available to server other process requests
Improved Serviceability
  • Synergy splash screen dialog now shows the progress bar and provides the various stages of the startup activity. If the user experiences any problem during start up, he can look into the documentation of the concerned step and detect possible causes for the failure.
  • Error messages are listed under information center
Synergy-RTC integration
  • Synergy Client interface :
Synergy now integrates with Rational Team Concert in a similar way it integrates with Rational Change. Users can now launch Rational Team Concert, query for work item, link Synergy tasks with Work Item from within Synergy client
  • Synergy RTC Bridge :
Synergy now supports the RTC Bridge Connector from Rational Team Concert Eclipse client. This allows you to integrate Rational Synergy source control with Rational Team Concert so that one can take advantage of work items and other change management functionalities without having to use Rational Team Concert source control. Please refer to the readme http://download.boulder.ibm.com/ibmdl/pub/software/rationalsdp/documentation/product_doc/Synergy/version_7-2/rtl_syn_rtc_int_1-2_readme.htm.
Synergy-RTC synchronizer
  • Synergy RTC Synchronizer imports data from Rational Synergy and export data to Rational Team Concert and vice versa. It enables synchronization of selected files and folders between both environments, essentially data can be migrated from Synergy to RTC over time.
Other enhancements
  • New CLI command to enable DCM administrators to perform DCM transfer package preview
  • Compliance with new cryptographic-standard NIST SP800-131a
  • Enhanced project grouping CLI command to update baseline projects
  • Display warning when release of project grouping and current task don't match while resolving work area conflicts
  • Enhance wording when check in of an object which is used in multiple project fails because of work area conflicts
  • Display a confirmation dialog in Java GUI before publishing a baseline

Enhanced Documentation
  • For installing Synergy in secure Windows environments
  • For Synergy GUI startup problems
  • For archive conversion and tips on problem solving
