Prerequisites

Rational Change 5.3.
Rational Synergy 7.2.0.4

Note: This Synergy Fix Pack is shipping a new JRE. If Rational Change is configured in HTTPs mode, then its SSL certificates will be lost. To overcome this, please refer to How to retain SSL certificates of Rational Change.

Installation Instructions

  1. Log in to the machine where Rational Change is installed as the user who installed Rational Change.

  2. Unzip (Windows) or untar (UNIX) the patch file into <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/packages. The resultant directory will have the name "rc<patch version>".

    For example, on UNIX:
    $ cd <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/packages
    $ tar xvf <file path>

  3. Install the fix pack 5.3.0.5
    • Login to Rational Change as Admin, and click the "System Administration" link in the action panel.
    • Click on the "Package Installer" tab, select this fix pack from the "Available Packages" listbox, and click the "Install" button.
    • Follow the below manual steps which are needed for some of the fixes to work.
      1. The 'services' directory delivered with the fix pack is not automatically installed. For this, first take a manual backup of the file <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/services/ChangeService/META-INF/ChangeService.wsdl and then replace it with the file 'services/ChangeService/META-INF/ChangeService.wsdl' from the fix Pack.

      2. If Change is installed on Tomcat and when there is a directory in the Change installation path which is same as the context, then manually copy file 'Rational_Change.5.3.FP0.5.fxtag' from the fix pack under '/properties/version' directory into <CHANGE_INSTALLED_DIRECTORY>/properties/version.

      3. The "license_api" directory delivered with the fix pack is not automatically installed. This needs to be copied manually. Follow the instruction given below to install the license library:
        1. Take a backup of 2 directories '32bit' and '64bit' from “/WEB-INF/lib” through cut and paste.

        2. From "license_api/<platform>" directory, copy both '32bit' and '64bit' sub-directories and paste them into "/WEB-INF/lib" path.

      4. Logging mechanism for Change and RDS communication is improved and this requires adding below tags to configuration file "<CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/classes/TDSConfiguration.xml".

INFO

INFO

    • After the patch installation is successful, stop and re-start Rational Change.

  4. Install the language packs
From the unzipped Rational Change 5.3.0.5 (in step 2), unzip the relevant language pack .zip file.
    • Copy the "change_<locale>" directory to <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/packages and the contents from "package_templates" directory to <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/package_templates.
    • Login to Rational Change as Admin, and click the "System Administration" link in the action panel.
    • Click on the "Package Installer" tab, select the language pack from the "Available Packages" listbox, and click the "Install" button.
    • Click the "Lifecycle Editor" link in the action panel and regenerate the required locale specific process package and install it.

  5. Uninstall the fix pack and the language pack:
If it is necessary to remove the fix pack and language pack after it was installed, follow these steps.
    • Login to Rational Change as Admin, and click the "System Administration" link in the action panel.
    • Uninstall the fix pack. Click on the "Package Installer" tab, select the fix pack from the "Installed Packages" listbox, and click the Uninstall button.
    • Follow the below manual steps which are needed to remove the files added manually while installing the fix pack.
      1. Replace the file ChangeService.wsdl from the path <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/services/ChangeService/META-INF/ChangeService.wsdl with the backed up file during installation.

      2. If Change is installed on Tomcat and when there is a directory in the Change installation path which is same as the context, then delete the file 'Rational_Change.5.3.FP0.5.fxtag' from the directory <CHANGE_INSTALLED_DIRECTORY>/properties/version.

    • Uninstall the language package: Click on the "Package Installer" tab, select the language pack from the "Installed Packages" listbox, and click the "Uninstall" button.
    • Manually replace the directory <CHANGE_APP_HOME>/WEB-INF/lib/32Bit (or 64Bit) with the backed up file during installation
    • Stop and start Rational Change.

Known Side Effects

The following defects were not resolved in this release.

ID

Problem/Workaround
PM79590CRCHG0920E Login failed: com.telelogic.tds.engine.ldap.jndi.tdsrole. after 5.3.0.4 patch
R#44265Make Rational Change support IE9 and IE 10 standard mode.
Some dialogs of Rational Change don't display properly in IE 9. To work around this problem, use IE 9 Quirks mode. Refer to technote Some Rational Change dialogs will not display properly in IE 9
R#38490Server registration must be initiated from the central server when mixed releases are used
Registration from a pre-5.3 remote server to a 5.3 central server fails if the server encodings are different (which is usually the case unless the remote server is using the Synergy Asian line). The workaround is to perform the registration from the central server.
R#38474Windows service may not start in a timely fashion when using local help
The Rational Change service on Windows may not start in a timely fashion when Rational Change and Help are deployed together on Jetty, resulting in the following message:
"Could not start the IBM Rational Change 8600 service on Local Computer.
Error 1053: The service did not respond to the start or control request in a timely fashion."
In fact, the service does start, but not within the 125 seconds expected by the Windows service, hence the message. Possible workarounds include:
1. Ignore this error
2. Install Rational Change and Help separately (on different web servers)
3. Use the public Information Center for help rather than a local help server
R#38401release.js script removed
The example external listbox script "release.js", and the internal APIs it relied on, have been removed in release 5.3. Version 5.3 automatically updates the release listbox when defined as a "Database Listbox" fetching values from "active_releases", so the script is unnecessary. Remove any references to release.js and set release listbox properties to "Database Listbox".

Change History

This fix pack supports RDS 5.2.1 and provides filter users option in Favorite Users dialog. Refer to the technote on How to update Rational Synergy / Rational Change links in Rational Team Concert work items when there is a server rename
