Prerequisites
Hardware and software requirements
For information about hardware and software requirements for installing the product, see the detailed system requirements for IBM Rational Rose Technical Developer or the system requirements report website.
C++ compiler requirements
Before you can install and use Rational Software Architect RealTime Edition, you must install a Gnu-based C++ compiler such as Cygwin. For more information, see the product information center.
Disk space requirements
You need the following disk space to store and extract the electronic parts, and install Rational Software Architect RealTime Edition, Version 8.5.1:

Extracting the compressed files
Extract all compressed files into the same directory.

Important:
If you use FLEXlm floating or token licenses for your product and chargeable components, you must upgrade your license key server to Rational License Key Server, Version 8.1.2, or later, before installing the product.
Rational License Key Server, Version 8.1.2, or later, can used with earlier versions of the product.

Download package
Important: By default, you do not need to download the compressed files that contain the update; the update is downloaded and installed by IBM Installation Manager directly from the IBM update repository.
To download and install the update from the compressed files, complete the following steps:
- Download the compressed files from Fix Central by following the link listed in the download table below.
- Extract the compressed files in an appropriate directory. For example, choose to extract to C:\temp\update.
- Add the update's repository location in IBM Installation Manager:
- Start IBM Installation Manager.
- On the Start page of Installation Manager, click File > Preferences, and then click Repositories. The Repositories page opens.
- On the Repositories page, click Add Repository.
- In the Add repository window, browse to or enter the file path to the diskTag.inf file, which is located in the disk1 sub-directory in the directory where you extracted the compressed files and then click OK. For example, enter C:\temp\updates\disk1\diskTag.inf.
- Click OK to close the Preference page.
- Install the update as described in the product information document at http://pic.dhe.ibm.com/infocenter/rsarthlp/v8r5/topic/com.ibm.xtools.installation.rsart.doc/topics/t_update.html.
