Downloading the installation files

1. To learn more about the software included with Rational Application Developer, review the installation topic Planning to install supporting software in the online information center.
2. Download the installation files from the Passport Advantage web site.

• Tip: If possible, choose option to use the IBM Download Director applet to download the software. The Download Director applet automatically verifies the completeness of each file that it processes.
• Tip: If you use Download Director to download the software, then you can also use it to extract the contents of all the compressed files that you downloaded in the session.

To use Download Director to extract the contents of the compressed files downloaded in a session:

1. Create a new directory (for example, create C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE) where you will extract the contents of the following items:
   • Rational Application Developer
   • WebSphere Application Server Test Environments
   • Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments
   • IBM Worklight Studio
2. Extract all of the compressed files for these software items to the directory that you created in the previous step.
3. Create a new directory where you will extract the contents of the WebSphere Portal Server installation files, and then extract the contents of the WebSphere Portal Server compressed files into that directory.
4. Create a new directory where you will extract the contents of the CICS Transaction Gateway installation files, and then extract the contents of the CICS Transaction Gateway compressed files into that directory.

Creating an installable image from the downloaded files

• Important - confirm the target directory when extracting the files: The extraction tool included in Windows operating systems by default extracts the contents of each .zip file to <current directory of the .zip file>/<name of .zip file>. (For example, the contents of C:\temp\myfile.zip are extracted into C:\temp\myfile.) As a result, the contents each file that you extract are in separate directories and you will not be able to install the product. Ensure that you extract the contents of each .zip file into the same directory.
• When you extract the contents of the compressed files, ensure that you preserve the directory structure of the extracted contents.

Procedure

1. Extract the installation files for the following software:

• Rational Application Developer
• WebSphere Application Server Test Environments
• Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments
• IBM Worklight Studio

To extract the installation files:

1. Create a new directory into which you will extract the contents of the compressed files. For example, create a new directory C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE.
2. Extract the contents of the file named similar to RAD_WS_version_Master.zip into the directory that you created in the previous step. Following the previous example, you will now have the directory C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE\RAD_SETUP
3. Extract the contents of the first part of Rational Application Developer (for example, RAD_WS_version_1.zip) to the same directory. Following the previous example, you will now have the directory C:\temp\RAD_INSTALL_IMAGE\RAD\disk1.
4. Continue extracting the remaining parts for Rational Application Developer. Each part that you extract will create a new "disk" subdirectory in the in the RAD directory.
5. Optional: If you downloaded any WebSphere Application Server Test Environment software (version 8.5, version 8.5 - Liberty profile version 7, or version 6.1) or Rational Desktop Connection Toolkit for Cloud Environments, extract the contents of each of these files into the same directory that you extracted the Rational Application Developer files.
6. Optional: If you downloaded WebSphere Application Server Test Environment software (version 8.5), which has a default JDK 1.6, and you want JDK 1.7, then download IBM WebSphere SDK Java Technology Edition V7.0 Multiplatform, Multilingual for WebSphere Application Server V8.5. Extract the contents of each of these files into the same directory that you extracted the Rational Application Developer files.

Tip: For WebSphere Application Server Test Environment software version 7.0.x and version 6.1.x, there are separate installation files for the 32-bit and 64-bit editions.


When you are finish extracting the contents of the files, the directory that you created will contains the following subdirectories:

2. Extract the installation files for WebSphere Portal Server:

1. Create a new directory into which you will extract the contents of the WebSphere Portal Server files. For example, create a new directory WPS_INSTALL_IMAGE.
2. Extract the contents of each Portal file to the directory that you created in the previous step.

3. Extract the installation files for CICS Transaction Gateway:

1. Create a new directory into which you will extract the contents of the CICS Transaction Gateway files. For example, create a new directory CTG_INSTALL_IMAGE.
2. Extract the contents of each CICS Transaction Gateway file to the directory that you created in the previous step.

4. Extract the contents of supporting software to other computers. For each software item, create a new directory in which to extract the contents of the compressed files. If a software item has multiple parts, extract all parts to the same parent directory. Note: The following software can be installed from the launchpad, which is included in the RAD_SETUP directory::

• IBM Rational Application Developer Code Coverage Extension
• IBM Rational Remote Agent Controller
• Rational Application Developer for WebSphere Software Build
• Rational Application Developer for Extension for Rational Team Concert Server with Jazz™ Team Server

If you want to use the launchpad to install this software, then you must either copy the RAD_SETUP directory to the computer where you are installing the software, or download and extract the file named similar to RAD_WS_ version_Master.zip to the target computer.
