Abstract

This document describes how to download and install IBM® Packaging Utility, Version 1.5.1

Download Description


Use IBM® Packaging Utility to copy packages to a new repository and delete packages from repositories when the packages are no longer needed.
This release can be used for an initial installation of Packaging Utility or to update a current installation of one of these versions of Packaging Utility: 1.5, 1.4.x, 1.3.x, 1.2.x, and 1.1.x.

These sections describe the contents of Packaging Utility, version 1.5.1.

Cumulative updates
This version includes all fixes, enhancements, and new features from the following versions: 1.5, 1.4.x, 1.3.x, 1.2.x, and 1.1.x.

Prerequisites


You must have Internet access to update software or to download the packages listed below on this page.

Before you can install the fix pack, you must have IBM Installation Manager installed. For more information, see the installation instructions below.

Installation Instructions


Use Installation Manager to install Packaging Utility. Installation Manager is included in the Packaging Utility download packages. If you already have Packaging Utility installed, use Installation Manager to update Packaging Utility.

The installer package for Packaging Utility 1.5.1 is pu.offering.disk.platform_1.5.1.zip where platform indicates the operating system. The installer package contains files for only one platform. Using this package, you can install Packaging Utility and Installation Manager by running the install command. You can also add this package as a repository in Installation Manager and use the package to update Packaging Utility

The fix pack package for Packaging Utility 1.5.1 is pu.update_1.5.1.zip. The fix pack contains files for all supported platforms. You can add this fix pack as a repository to update Packaging Utility. You cannot install Packaging Utility or Installation Manager with this fix pack.



Install Packaging Utility

If you are installing Packaging Utility, choose one of the following methods to install Packaging Utility:

A. Use this method if Installation Manager is not installed:

  1. Download the installer package, pu.offering.disk.platform_1.5.1.zip, for your platform, see the Download package table. The installer package includes installation files for both Installation Manager and Packaging Utility. You cannot use the fix pack package, pu.update_1.5.1.zip, to install Installation Manager.
  2. Extract the compressed file to a temporary directory.
  3. Open a command prompt and switch to the directory containing the extracted files.
  4. Run the command:
    Windows: install.exe
    Linux and UNIX Systems: ./install
  5. Follow the wizard pages to install the Installation Manager. Installation Manager starts after the installation is finished.
  6. Add the repository location for the installer package:
    a. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Repositories.
    b. Click Add Repository.
    c. Browse to or enter the file path to the disktag.inf file. The disktag.inf file is located in the directory where you extracted the compressed files.
  7. On the start page of Installation Manager, click Install.

B. If Installation Manager is installed, download the Packaging Utility installer package and use Installation Manager to install:
  1. Download the installer package, pu.offering.disk.platform_1.5.1.zip for your platform, see the Download package table.
  2. Extract the compressed file to a temporary directory.
  3. Add the repository location for the fix pack:
    a. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Repositories.
    b. Click Add Repository.
    c. Browse to or enter the file path to the disktag.inf file. The disktag.inf file is located in the directory where you extracted the compressed files.
  4. On the start page of Installation Manager, click Install.


Update Packaging Utility

If Packaging Utility is installed and you are using this release as a fix pack, choose one of the following methods to update Packaging Utility:

A. Use the update capability of Installation Manager to update Packaging Utility.
NOTE: Installation Manager must be able to access www.ibm.com.
  1. Start Installation Manager.
  2. Enable updates in Installation Manager. Click File > Preferences > Updates and select Search for Installation Manager update.
  3. Click OK.
  4. On the main page of the Installation Manager, click Update.

B. Download and install version 1.5.1 as a fix pack.
NOTE
: You can use this method if the computer does not have access to the Internet.
  1. Download the fix pack. You can download a platform specific installer package, pu.offering.disk.platform_1.5.1.zip, if you are updating Packaging Utility on one platform. Download the fix pack package, pu.update_1.5.1.zip, if you are updating Packaging Utility on more than one platform.
    If the computer where you will install Packaging Utility does not have Internet access, you must first download the fix pack to a computer that has Internet access. Then copy the fix pack to the computer where you will perform the installation.
  2. Extract the compressed file to an appropriate directory.
  3. Add the fix pack repository location in Installation Manager:
    a. Start IBM Installation Manager.
    b. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Repositories.
    c. Click Add Repository.
    d. Browse to or enter the file path to the disktag.inf file. The disktag.inf file is located in the directory where you extracted the compressed files.
  4. On the main page of Installation Manager, click Install or Update.

You can download the installer package or the fix pack from the table below. If you are unable to use either of these methods, you can download the fix pack using HTTP from the following URL:
http://public.dhe.ibm.com/software/rationalsdp/v7/pu/151/zips/

NOTE: You must have access to the public.dhe.ibm.com domain to download the files.
