JR40010: Failed to deploy the Simulated Scalable Environment

Downloadable files

Abstract

Deploying the Simulated Scalable Environment pattern for WebSphere Process Server Hypervisor Edition v7.0.0.2 for SUSE 11 fails due to expired security certificate.

Download Description

PROBLEM SUMMARY:
The WebSphere Process Server 7.0.0.2 Hypervisior Edition includes pre-configured profiles created with the virtual images at the product release time. The default expiration period for the default personal certificate for every pre-configured profile is one year. Since the certificates have expired, the Simulated Scalable Environment pattern deployment will fail if you use the default cell name and node name. This download document provides a Fix to refresh the expired certificate.

Environment:

WebSphere Process Server v7.0.0.2 Hypervisor Edition for SUSE 11

Problem Symptoms:

If you use a default cell name and node names during deployment of the Simulated Scalable Environment for WebSphere Process Server pattern, the deployment will fail and you will see the following errors during node sync operation.

In file /opt/IBM/AE/AR/ConfigWPS.out, you will see an error such as the following:

WASX7023E: Error creating "SOAP" connection to host "cbclient39.cos.
tecnet"; exception information: com.ibm.websphere.management.exception.
ConnectorNotAvailableException: [SOAPException: faultCode=SOAP-ENV:

java.security.cert.CertificateExpiredException: NotAfter: Wed May 11
18:58:48 EDT 2011; targetException=java.lang.IllegalArgumentException:
Error opening socket: javax.net.ssl.SSLHandshakeException: com.ibm.
jsse2.util.g: PKIX path validation failed: java.security.cert.
CertPathValidatorException: The certificate expired at Wed May 11 18:58:
48 EDT 2011; internal cause is:
java.security.cert.CertificateExpiredException: NotAfter: Wed May 11
18:58:48 EDT 2011]

Problem Workaround:

Pre-configured profiles are used when you retain the default cell name and node names during the Simulated Scalable Environment pattern deployment. You can work around this problem by selecting a new cell name and node name while deploying this pattern. When you select a new cell name and node names, new profiles will be created instead of using the pre-configured profiles. New security certificates are generated during profile creation and you will not see this problem, but you will notice an increase in deployment time due to new profile creation.

Installation Instructions

If you want to use the pre-configured profiles with default cell/node names during the deployment to reduce the profile creation time, you should extend the virtual image and apply this emergency fix using WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance. Extending a virtual image is the process of starting with a copy of an existing virtual image, making modifications to that image, and then storing that modified image as a new virtual image in the catalog.

Follow the WebSphere CloudBurst Appliance information center to do an extension of the virtual image:

In step 6 of the above link, follow the links below to do intended modifications for the new extended virtual image:

1) Download and add this emergency fix 7.0.0.2-WS-WPSHVE-JR40010.zip to the catalog

2) Apply it to the new extended virtual image

This emergency fix will refresh the expired keys during the next activation time in this extended modified virtual image. You can use this new virtual image to do your deployment of different patterns next time.
