Prerequisites

Supported platforms are based on the product that you install. Installation Manager is supported on the same platforms that are supported by the IBM products that use Installation Manager.

You must have Internet access to download the installer packages or fix packs that are listed below.

For System Requirements, see System Requirements for IBM Installation Manager.

Installation Instructions

Installation Instructions

Installation Manager versions are released as both fix packs and installer packages. Use the installer packages when you are installing Installation Manager for the first time. Use the fix pack or the installer packages when you are updating Installation Manager.

Installation and Update Files

Package File Name Action Operating System
Installer agent.installer.platform.zip Install or update Installation Manager The .zip file is specific to a platform. In the file name, platform indicates the operating system.
Fix Pack com.ibm.cic.agent.offering_version.zip Update Installation Manager All supported platforms. In the file name, version indicates the version of Installation Manager.

With the installer package, you can install Installation Manager by running the install command.

The fix pack package is significantly larger than the platform specific installer packages. You can add the fix pack as a repository to update Installation Manager. You cannot install Installation Manager with the fix pack.

Methods to install or update Installation Manager:

Use the installer package to install Installation Manager using the user interface or silent install
Perform a silent update of the Installation Manager
Use Installation Manager to search for updates
Use the fix pack to update Installation Manager

For other installation scenarios, see the Installation Manager Information Center at: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/install/v1r5/index.jsp.

Using a computer that does not have Internet Access

For computers that do not have Internet access, you must download the installer package or fix pack on a computer that has Internet access. Copy the compressed file to the computer where you are installing or upgrading Installation Manager.

Use the installer package to install Installation Manager using the user interface or silent install

The installer package is platform specific. You can either use the Installation Manager interface to run the installation or perform a silent installation.

NOTE: You can use this option if the computer does not have access to the Internet.

1. Download the installer package, agent.installer.platform.zip, for a specific platform.
2. Extract the compressed file to a directory.
3. Install using the Installation Manager user interface or the silent install:

Installation Manager user interface
a. Open a command prompt to the directory where you extracted the compressed file.
b. Run the command:
Windows: install.exe
Linux and UNIX: ./install
c. Follow the installer wizard pages to install Installation Manager.

Silent Installation
a. Open a command prompt to the directory where you extracted the compressed file.
b. Run the command:
Windows: installc.exe -acceptLicense
Linux, UNIX, IBM i, and z/OS: ./installc -acceptLicense

Perform a silent update of the Installation Manager

For computers without Internet access

1. Open a command prompt to the directory where you extracted compressed file.
2. Run the command to update Installation Manager:
Windows: installc -acceptLicense
Linux, UNIX, IBM i, and z/OS: ./installc -acceptLicense

For computers with Internet access

1. Create the file setSearchForUpdates.xml
2. Add the content:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
<agent-input>
<preference value='true' name='com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.searchForUpdates'/>
<preference value='true' name='offering.service.repositories.areUsed'/>
</agent-input>

For information about preferences com.ibm.cic.common.core.preferences.searchForUpdates and offering.service.repositories.areUsed see: http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/install/v1r5/index.jsp?topic=/com.ibm.silentinstall12.doc/topics/r_silent_prefs.html.

3. Save the file.
4. Open a command prompt to the eclipse\tools subdirectory located in the directory where Installation Manager is installed.
5. Run the command to update Installation Manager:

Windows: imcl.exe input setSearchForUpdates.xml -acceptLicense
Linux, UNIX, IBM i, and z/OS: ./imcl input setSearchForUpdates.xml -acceptLicense

Use Installation Manager to search for updates

NOTE: This method requires Internet access.

1. Start Installation Manager.
2. Verify that updates are enabled. Click File > Preferences > Updates and select Search for Installation Manager update.
3. Verify that service repositories are searched. Click File > Preferences > Repositories and select Search service repositories during installation and updates.
4. Click OK.
5. On the main page of the Installation Manager, click Update.

Use the fix pack to update Installation Manager

The fix pack contains files for all supported platforms. Use this option when you are updating Installation Manager on multiple platforms.

NOTE:
- You can use this option if the computer that has Installation Manager installed does not have access to the Internet.
- The fix pack package is significantly larger than the installer package. If you are updating Installation Manager on one platform, use the installer package to update Installation Manager.

1. Download the com.ibm.cic.agent.offering.zip.
NOTE: Do not download a platform specific .zip file like agent.installer.platform.zip.
2. Extract the compressed file to a directory.
3. Add the fix pack repository location in IBM Installation Manager:
a. Start IBM Installation Manager.
b. In Installation Manager, click File > Preferences > Repositories.
c. Click Add Repository.
d. Browse to or enter the file path to the repository.config file. The repository.config file is located in the directory where you extracted the compressed files.
4. On the main page of the Installation Manager, click Update.
