Abstract

This document describes how to download and install IBM® Rational® Functional Tester Version 8.2.

Download Description

Rational Functional Tester is an object-oriented automated testing tool that tests Windows®, .NET, Java™, HTML, Siebel, SAP, AJAX, PowerBuilder, Flex, zSeries®, iSeries®, and pSeries® applications. It enables you to record reliable and robust scripts that can be played back to validate new builds of a test application. Rational Functional Tester runs on Microsoft® Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Vista™, and Linux® operating systems.

Rational Functional Tester is available in two integrated development environments and two scripting languages. Rational Functional Tester, Java Scripting uses the Java language and the IBM Rational Software Delivery Platform. Rational Functional Tester, VB.NET Scripting uses the VB.NET language and the Microsoft Visual Studio .NET development environment.

This release of IBM Rational Functional Tester Version 8.2 includes the following new features:

  • Rational Functional Tester supports Ubuntu Desktop and Server 8.0.4 LTS operating system.
  • Rational Functional Tester provides support for token licensing. You must install Rational Common Licensing server version 8.1.1 to activate the product licenses. For information about token licensing, see License types. If you have Rational License Server set up, then you must migrate to Rational Common Licensing server version 8.1.1. For information, see Migrating to Rational Common Licensing.

In Rational Functional Tester Version 8.2 release, support is withdrawn for the following:
  • Integration of Rational Functional Tester with IBM Rational ClearQuest® TestManager
  • Integration of Rational Functional Tester with IBM Rational TestManager
  • Microsoft Windows 2000, Professional, Server, and Advanced Server
  • All releases of Firefox version 2

Integration with Rational Team Concert


To use Rational Team Concert as the source control management tool for managing functional test assets, you must install Rational Team Concert version 2.0.0.2 iFix4 (or later), which is an Eclipse 3.6 compatible IM extension offering.

Rational Functional Tester version 8.2 package does not include the "Jazz™ Eclipse Client for Rational Team Concert/Rational Quality Manager" as an optional feature that was provided in the earlier versions of Rational Functional Tester. Supported Domains

Prerequisites

If you are installing or upgrading Rational Functional Tester on Microsoft Windows , to use the .NET Scripting feature, you must copy msvcp71.dll into the System32 directory (C:\Windows\System32), if it is not already available. You can copy the msvcp71.dll file from any other Windows operating system such as Windows XP or download it from Internet.

Installing Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.2:

To install Rational Functional Tester, Version 8.2, download the package from the IBM Passport Advantage .
