Rational AppScan Enterprise, Reporting Console and Tester Editions Version 5.6

Here are the main new features and enhancements in this release:

Scan engine and platform enhancements:

• IPv6 support
• In-session detection to ensure complete site coverage
• Support for applications using the SOAP and JSON protocols
• Custom parameters configuration
• Smarter way of testing for security issues by leveraging HTTP probes
• Support for Web applications that require following a sequence of steps (for example, opening a new bank account or completing a survey)
• Capability to limit a scan to a specific depth (specified as a number of clicks from the starting URL)
• Support for testing WebSphere portal applications with manual navigation
• Flash Web application testing
• Automatic security rules update
• Testing for Malware (malicious scripts uploaded to a public Web site by an attacker)
• Improved interoperability with all of the Rational AppScan product family
• Performance enhancements to data post-processing and report generation

Serviceability improvements:

• Real-time scan log that displays real-time view of events occurring during the progress of a scan.
• Better trace logging and easier log file access

Usability improvements:

• Performance enhancements in the area of reporting
• Improvements to the scan configuration User Interface
• Global update of job and report options
• QuickScan users are given the ability to create folders and copy jobs
• Better folder management through the ability to propagate folder permissions
• New reports to help determine scan coverage:
  • Pages with Unfilled Forms report (pages with forms that require user input)
  • Script Parameters report

Release of a Web services API

• A collection of Web services, based on the Representational State Transfer standard (REST), that provide the ability to export report data into 3rd party applications
