WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Plug-ins for IBM HTTP Server

Download

Abstract

Note: This page is no longer being updated. Contemporary builds of the Plug-in are only available via the standard mechanisms such as Passport Advantage and Fix Central.

Download Description

WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V6.1 and V7.0 Plug-ins are available for download by WebSphere Application Server licensed customers. The downloads are not Interim Fixes but are copies of the z/OS Plug-ins that are contained in the most recent maintenance PTFs.

NOTE: WebSphere Application Server V6.1 is beyond end of support, and documentation for that version is no longer available. V6.1 should not be used, and no support is available.

Prerequisites

An IBM WebSphere Application Server V6.1 and V7.0 for z/OS Plug-in must be associated with an IBM HTTP Server that runs on z/OS. There are two HTTP Servers for z/OS that are readily available:

  1. IBM HTTP Server for z/OS V5.3: a 31 bit HTTP Server that is an element of z/OS and is shipped with z/OS. This HTTP Server will run both V6.1 and V7.0 of the WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Plug-in (31 bit plug-in).

  2. IBM HTTP Server V6.1: a 64 bit HTTP Server (powered by Apache) that ships with WebSphere Application Server v6.1 for z/OS. This HTTP Server will only run the WebSphere Application Server V6.1 for z/OS Plug-in (64 bit plug-in).

  3. IBM HTTP Server V7.0: a 64 bit HTTP Server (powered by Apache) that ships with WebSphere Application Server and is also available on the IBM Ported Tools for z/OS Web site. This HTTP Server will only run the WebSphere Application Server V7.0 for z/OS Plug-in (64 bit plug-in).

Use the Download package section, listed below, to determine which WebSphere Application Server for z/OS Plug-in best fits your needs.

Installation Instructions

  1. Click on the z/OS Plug-in that best fits your needs to start the download.

  2. Use FTP, or a similar tool, to move the downloaded file to the /tmp directory on the z/OS machine on which you plan to install the Plug-in.

All file movement must be in the BINARY mode.

  3. Un-pax the downloaded file into temporary storage by issuing the following command:

  4. pax  -rzvf <downloaded file>

  5. Consult the "Instructions for installation and configuration" section below to select an Information Center article regarding the Plug-in version and HTTP Server that you are using for instructions on how to install and configure the z/OS Plug-in.

Within those instructions, the location of the plug-in is listed as the WebSphere Application Server app_server_root/bin/ directory. You must replace app_server_root/bin/ with the location of the temporary directory that holds the unpaxed downloaded file (from step 3).

For example:

On the download machine:
For this example the software to be used is HTTP Server for z/OS V5.3 and WebSphere Application Server for z/OS V7.0. Therefore the plug-in module to select is ihs390WAS70Plugin_http.so.z. For this example the down-load machine is a PC running some variation of Microsoft Windows.
  1. Click on ihs390WAS70Plugin_http.so.z and the download should start. The browser dialog box will appear prompting you to "open" or "save" the downloaded file.

  2. Click on save. You will be prompted to input a location to store the downloaded file.

  3. Set c:\temp as the destination directory.

  4. Open a DOS command window and change to the c:\temp directory.

  5. FTP the file ihs390WAS70Plugin_http.so.z to the /tmp directory of the z/OS machine. You must use BINARY mode.

NOTE: There are tools other than FTP that can be used to move files from the PC and the z/OS machine. No matter what tool is used the file movement from the PC to the z/OS machine must be in BINARY mode.

On The z/OS machine OMVS command line:
  1. Create a temporary work area and go to that area:

  2. mkdir /tmp/plugin <ENTER>
    cd /tmp/plugin <ENTER>

  3. Un-pax the downloaded file into the temporary work area with the following command:

  4. pax -rzvf /tmp/ihs390WAS70Plugin_http.so.z <ENTER>

  5.  Instructions for installation and configuration:

Note: The Information Center instructions refer to the location of the plug-in as WebSphere Application Server app_server_root/bin/ directory. You must substitute /tmp/plugin as the location of the plug-in.
