Abstract
This document describes how to download IBM InfoSphere Information Server, Version 8.1, for AIX from the IBM Passport Advantage web site.
Download Description
To learn about the installation process:
- Review the system requirements, and if necessary, download the product.
- Read the Quick Start Guide for the process overview.
- Review the release notes for the latest information to ensure successful installations.
- Read the Planning, Installation, and Configuration Guide to perform the installation.
InfoSphere Information Server combines the technologies of IBM InfoSphere FastTrack, IBM InfoSphere Metadata Workbench, IBM InfoSphere Business Glossary, IBM InfoSphere DataStage, IBM InfoSphere QualityStage, IBM InfoSphere Information Analyzer, and IBM InfoSphere Information Services Director into a single unified platform that enables companies to understand, cleanse, transform, and deliver trustworthy and context-rich information.
Downloading the product
Your proof of entitlement instructs you on the products you are licensed to install and directs you to your license file. The license file is needed to initiate the installation of Information Server and DataStage Server and includes a ReadMe which must be reviewed prior to installing any component within Information Server 8.1. The 'InfoSphere Information Server 8.1 Default License Key File' and 'InfoSphere DataStage Server 8.1 Default License Key File' are available through Passport Advantage for each operating system platform's eAssembly.
To download the product:
- Go to the Find Downloads and Media web page and log in.
- Under the Download finder options, select the Find by part number search option.
- Search for each downloadable image by the part number, for example:

- Extract each of the images into a single, temporary directory on your system. Use a file extracting utility that supports large file extractions.
- Download the Quick Start Guide. Follow the instructions to perform the basic installation of the product.
If you purchase additional product modules or components after you install the suite, you do not have to download the installation image again. However, you must update the license on the services tier computer before you can install the new modules. For more information, see the IBM Information Server Planning, Installation, and Configuration Guide.
You apply any relevant fix packs from the Support site.
