IBM Notes 9.0.1 (64-bit) on MAC OSX is Not Responsive After Installing Java 8 Update 152 or Later Versions

Problem

After launching IBM Notes 9.0.1 64-bit (Standard Configuration) running with Java 8 Update 152 or later, Notes client will not accept or respond to any mouse or key input. Notes will not display any error or show a sign for "Not responding."

Symptom

  • Problem happens after upgrading Java 8 to Update 152 or later versions
  • Not happening in Notes Basic configuration

Environment

IBM Notes 9.0.1 (64-bit), MAC OSX, Java 8 Update 152, Java 8 Update 161


Diagnosing the problem

Steps to reproduce:

1. Upgrade Java Version to Java 8 Update 152 or 161 on MAC OS X.
2. Launch Notes.
3. Notice that Notes does not respond to any input but does not show that it is hanging (Not Responding)

Resolving the problem

The issue has been reported to Quality Engineering under APAR LO93289 / SPR RUYAASUQ66 and fixed in Notes 9.0.1 64-bit for Mac Interim Fix 13 (IF13), available from IBM Fix Central. To work around the issue in earlier versions, downgrade to Java 8 Update 151 or 144.
