ANS1417W during backup on Microsoft Windows systems
Warning ANS1417W can be seen during the backup of a Windows system.
During backup of a Windows system, following warning can be encountered:
ANS1417W Protected system state file '\\?\GLOBALROOT\Device\HarddiskVolumeShadowCopy39\Windows\System32\zipfldr.dll' is backed up to the drive file space, not system state file space.
This warning is seen when the IBM Spectrum Protect Client installed from the IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments package is used to create system state backups.
When the client is installed as part of the IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments package, the additional client option SKIPSYSTEMEXCLUDE is used with the default setting YES.
When backing up the local system drive (c:\ by default) and systemstate, following difference exists between the stand alone installed IBM Spectrum Protect Client and the client installed as part of the IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments package :
- In the stand alone client installations, the VSS system exclude is created and you don't see the ANS1417W warning messages on local drive backup (if no SYSTEM Writer error occurs).
- In the client as part of the IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments package, the VSS exclude list is not created and that is why ANS1417W warning messages are seen when using that client to backup the local drive c:
Resolving the problem
Use the option "SKIPSYSTEMEXCLUDE NO" in the client dsm.opt file for local drive and systemstate backups when using a client installed as part of the IBM Spectrum Protect for Virtual Environments.
