Controller Web page empty / blank / white when using NetBIOS name to connect

Problem(Abstract)

User launches Internet Explorer (IE), and browses to the Controller Web website (http://servername:9080/fcm.web/login).

The IE screen is empty/blank/white.

Symptom

Nothing appears in web browser (for example Internet Explorer) when the user launches Controller Web.


Cause

There are several known causes for similar symptoms.

  • For more examples, see separate IBM Technote #2011952.

This Technote specifically relates to the scenario where the cause is that the user has connected to the server using the NetBIOS name (http://servername:9080/fcm.web/login).

  • In some environments, it is not possible to use the NetBIOS name.

Environment

Problem does not affect all environments.

Resolving the problem

In some environments, it is necessary to connect to Controller Web using the FQDN name (or 'localhost' if running directly on the server).

Example:

Connect using this URL instead: http://servername.mycompany.com:9080/fcm.web/login
