Copying queries and pages from an existing report to a new report in Cognos Analytics

Question & Answer

Question

How can I copy the queries and pages from an existing report to a new report in Cognos Analytics?

Answer

Here is a method for copying the queries and pages of an existing report to a new report using Cognos Analytics 11.0.x:
Both reports must first use the same package. Both reports must be in the same version of Cognos Analytics.
Any query or page that you copy into a new report must not already exist and if it does, then you need to delete it first in the new report. Or you can rename the query in the existing report before copying and pasting it into the new report.
You need to copy the queries for the page first from the existing report, by going to Manage queries and then copy one query at a time (right-click and copy) and paste it into Manage Queries for the new report. Once the queries for the page are copied, then you can go to Manage Pages and copy the page and paste it into Manage Pages in the new report.
This works when using Internet Explorer 11 but it does not work when using Firefox and Chrome.
In Cognos Analytics 11.1.x you can now copy queries and report elements like lists or cross tabs from one report to another. Both reports must be opened in the same cognos session and browser tab.
If you copy a query into another report and the report contain queries with the same name it will be pasted with a new name.
A list for example will also be added with a new name and its query with a new name if the name exists already in target report.
This now also works in supported browsers like Firefox and Chrome.
