Troubleshooting

Problem

When modifying a saved query in any application, message "Error 503 The server encountered an unknown error" is seen in the browser when attempting to save the changes.

Symptom

Using Work Order Tracking as an example:

1) Go To Work Order Tracking application

2) Filter for Site = Bedford

3) Click on Save Current Query

4) Click on View/Manage Queries and select the query that has just been saved

5) Modify this query (in this example change historyflag = 0 -> historyflag = 1)

6) Click on OK to save the query

7) Error message in browser:

"The server encountered an unknown error. Reload the application and try it normally. If the problem persists, contact your system administrator.

Error code 503"

Also reported:

"The browser cannot connect to the server. Load the application and try
again. If reloading does not solve the problem, the cause may be that
you are no longer connected to the network or the server is no longer
active."

Cause

In this case, there was a firewall rule which blocked HTTP requests containing where clauses on the assumption that they were attempts to inject SQL

Diagnosing The Problem

When saving the updated query, the HTTP request has to include the updated where clause in order to function. The firewall blocked the HTTP request

Resolving The Problem

Remove or modify the firewall rule.
