Problem
While installing Maximo 7.6 with Oracle DB manually configured following the Installation Guide, the error CTGIN5398E is displayed in the console.
Symptom
Error CTGIN5398E: Unable to connect to the database. The userid 'maximo as SYSDBA' and password combination were not accepted ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied
Environment
Maximo Asset Management 7.6.x and Oracle database
Diagnosing The Problem
1. Confirm that the maximo user can connect successfully to the Oracle database that you manually created before the Maximo installation.
2. Check that database tablespaces are created in UPPERCASE.
You should be able to display tablespaces in the current database. In a SQL query tool, run this:
SELECT TABLESPACE_NAME, STATUS, CONTENTS FROM USER_TABLESPACES;
Resolving The Problem
The requirement for "maximo as SYSDBA" user is different depending on the configuration scenario:
- If Configuration is fully automated, and the database instance already exists, the maximo (or equivalent) user must have SYSDBA authority.
- If Configuration is NOT fully automated, and the database instance already exists, the maximo (or equivalent) user must NOT have SYSDBA authority
To select fully automating database creation, tick the "Create and configure the database" checkbox when installing a new deployment.
If database setup was completed before Maximo installation (users, tablespaces and grants are set), leave "Create and configure the database" checkbox unchecked The Configuration Tool will only run maxinst, then updateDB to the database. For general purposes, the maximo user does not need to have SYSDBA authority.
