IBM Support

Email Notification may fail after upgrading to CLM 6.0.3

Troubleshooting

Problem

After upgrading to IBM Rational Collaborative Lifecycle Management (CLM) 6.0.3, you notice that email stops working.

Symptom

If your Rational Collaboration Life Cycle Management environment is configured with an smtp mail server that allows anonymous access, but you have a smtp user ID and password stored in the teamserver.properties of JTS, after upgrading to CLM 6.0.3, there is chance that the email notification feature will be broken.

Cause

This is due to the fact that starting from CLM 6.0.3, IBM changed the implementation method for email notification from code level perspective and the new method does not work well when unnecessary smtp credentials are configured. This problem has been identified as a defect. See details in defect work item 413494.

Resolving The Problem

The problem has been addressed in CLM 6.0.4.

To workaround the issue, follow one of the methods below:

  1. Apply 6.0.3 iFix004 or later (see CLM fix list).
  2. Shut down the CLM server, remove the following 2 lines from the teamserver.properties file of jts, restart CLM and try to enable email notification again. Please ensure NOT to key in any smtp id and password.

    com.ibm.team.repository.notification.mail.smtp.password=xxxx
    com.ibm.team.repository.notification.mail.smtp.user=xxxx
