Documents cannot be uploaded to IBM FileNet P8 Content Engine when using JBoss web application server

Troubleshooting

Problem

When trying to upload a document through the standard P8 interface or through FileNet Enterprise Manager (FEM), the document is not uploaded and the following error is displayed on screen: com.filenet.api.exception.EngineRuntimeException: FNRCC0036E: CONTENT_DCA_FAILED_INSERT: The content element could not be inserted.

Cause

This problem is seen when using the jboss-5.1.0.GA.zip package for deployment.

Environment

IBM FileNet P8 Content Engine 5.2.1 using JBoss Web Application Server.

Diagnosing The Problem

The following errors are seen in the P8 server trace log files:

com.filenet.api.exception.EngineRuntimeException: FNRCC0036E: CONTENT_DCA_FAILED_INSERT: The content element could not be inserted. Message was: org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.jdk5.WrappedPreparedStatementJDK5.setBinaryStream(ILjava/io/InputStream;)V
...

Caused by: java.lang.AbstractMethodError: org.jboss.resource.adapter.jdbc.jdk5.WrappedPreparedStatementJDK5.setBinaryStream(ILjava/io/InputStream;)V

Resolving The Problem

The problem is resolved by deploying the jboss-5.1.0.GA-jdk6.zip package in place of the jboss-5.1.0.GA.zip package.

Note that trying to install a 1.6+ JDK over the top of the jboss-5.1.0.GA.zip package will not resolve the issue due to other dependancies, so the jboss-5.1.0.GA-jdk6.zip must be used.
