Support's Guide to event Suppression and Escalation

Question & Answer

Question

SuppressEscl : Is there any guidance on event suppression and escalation?

Cause

SuppressEscl is provided as a tool to allow users to escalate and suppress events. However, there is no further guidance on automated event escalation and timed event suppression.

Answer

Customisation of Netcool/OMNIbus is up to the individual customer, however, general guidance to methods are provided in the Support's Guide to Event Suppression and Escalation.

The attached SQL includes an example of how timed event suppression can be performed using an Object Server database table and custom field. In addition a custom trigger is provided to illustrate how it is possible to automatically escalate events based on how events are managed within Netcool/OMNIbus.

The example solution creates the trigger group nc_suppressescl and the following triggers:

  • nc_suppressescl_status
  • nc_deduplicate_timings
  • nc_suppressescl_clean
  • nc_escalate
