Relation between the FAILOVERHLADDRESS and the REPLTCPSERVERADDRESS options
How does the FAILOVERHLADDRESS server option affect the value of the REPLTCPSERVERADDRESS option on a backup-archive client?
By default if no FAILOVERHLADDRESS is set on the target replication server, the REPLTCPSERVERADDRESS on a client will be automatically set to the high-level address of the target replication server as defined on the primary server. For example, this stanza can be observed in the client's system option file:
*** These options should not be changed manually
REPLTCPSERVERADDRESS 1 184.108.40.206
If the FAILOVERHLADDRESS is set on the target replication server, then the next time the client connects to the primary server, the REPLTCPSERVERADDRESS will be updated with that value.
It is important to understand that the FAILOVERHLADDRESS is not used to 'cross-define' the primary replication server's IP address on the target replication server, or vice-versa. This option is intended to define a second network interface on the target replication server that is reachable by the clients in the case where the interface on the target used for server-to-server communication with the primary server is not reachable by the clients.
