Support's Guide to the Syslog probe

Question & Answer

Question

Is there a Support's guide to the Syslog probe?

Answer

The syslog probe is straightforward probe to configure, and the product manual discusses the syslog probes configuration in detail. The syslog and syslogd probes share code and features.

If two or more syslog probes are being used on the same probe server, set the Name and RecoveryFile property settings uniquely.

For example.

Name           : "syslog_02"
Server         : "NCOMS"
# Best practice
NetworkTimeout : 15
PollServer     : 30
#FifoName       : "/var/log/nco-fifo"
LogFile        : "/var/log/ncolog"
RulesFile      : "$OMNIHOME/probes/linux2x86/syslog.rules"
RecoveryFile   : "/opt/nrv81/tivoli/netcool/omnibus/var/syslog_02.reco"
# EOF

Note that the RecoveryFile needs the full path name.
