dsmserv fails to start after upgrading from version 6.x to 7.x

Troubleshooting

Problem

After upgrading the Tivoli Storage Manager server from v6.x to v7.x on Red Hat, it does not start and shows the error: dsmserv: /lib64/libc.so.6: version 'GLIBC_2.10' not found (required by dsmserv)

Cause

The Red Hat release does not have the required version of the GNU C libraries.

Environment

Red Hat Linux 5

Diagnosing The Problem

Verify the release of Red Hat that is being used, by running the command:

$ cat /etc/redhat-release

Resolving The Problem

The Tivoli Storage Manager version 6.x is supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5. However, when utilizing the Tivoli Storage Manager version 7.1 and/or IBM Spectrum Protect 7.1.3 and later, these require either Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 or 7.

If Red Hat 5.x is being used, it will be necessary to upgrade to Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 or 7 when upgrading the Tivoli Storage Manager server to version 7.x.
