Can the System V startup scripts still be used for latest Linux distributions?

Question

Since Linux RedHat version 7 and SUSE Linux version 12 the "systemd" process replaces the init process for starting services at boot time and changing runlevels.

Answer

The "System V" startup scripts provided with the Tivoli Storage Manager Server (dsmserv.rc) and Storage Agent (dsmsta.rc) will continue to work.
The "systemd" has a "System V" compatibility mode and the dsmserv.rc script will work with that.
So the following instructions are still valid even with the latest Linux architectures:

- for Server startup:
