Problem

IBM BigInsights: Some widgets on Ambari dashboard are not rendering graphs while Ambari Metrics is running

Cause

Network connection timeouts.
Ambari Web UI widgets invokes Ambari Server REST API's to fetch the data the api calls have a low timeout value for performance reasons. If the APIs do not return within a given time , connection is closed .

Diagnosing The Problem

Socket errors are observed in Ambari server logs,
07 Jun 2016 00:11:45,730 ERROR [qtp-client-13595] MetricsPropertyProvider:185 - Error getting timeline metrics. Can not connect to collector, socket error.

Resolving The Problem

A work around is to minimize the network delays for API calls by relocating Ambari Metrics collector on same node as Ambari Server.

The following steps will help in moving the Ambari Metrics Collector from one node to another
