DSMCAD has to be restarted for backup to run

Problem

DSMCAD has to be recycled after each backup or backups will fail

Symptom

The activity log will have the following message:
ANR8213W Session open with clientip timed out

Resolving The Problem

Generally when "ANR8123W Session open with xxxx timed out." the issue is the server could not reach the "cad" listener on the client or the server doesn't have communication to the client IP or port. The following is not a comprehensive list, but provides a few things that you can verify to identify the cause.

1) Verify the port the CAD is listening by doing the following on the Client:
stop/restart dsmcad, review the dsmwebcl.log and find the following line:

(dsmcad) ANS3000I TCP/IP communications available on port XXXXX

XXXXX is the port on which the CAD is listening for the server prompt.

After you find the port, run this command from the OS:

netstat -an

You should see a listener on that port.

2) After you verify the client is actively listening on the specified port, run this command on the server to verify the server is able to reach this port (ie, the port isn't blocked)

open a command prompt on server;

telnet IP_of_client XXXXX

note : Replace XXXXX with the real port number.

If the server is not able to reach the client on that port, then schedmode prompt via dsmcad won't work and the following message will be displayed:

Connecting To IP_of_client...Could not open connection to the host, on port XXXXX: Connect failed

If it is able to connect the screen should be blank.

3) If any firewalls are in place, verify the open port ranges. We can specify the port for the dsmcad if we know which ports are open. The port needs to be open for both inbound/outbound communication.
4) Alternatively, you can run schedmode polling, in this case, the client contacts the server, instead of the server contacting client. Also, the scheduler is a process/not a daemon (listener), so you won't have the issue like above. The polling schedule will work if you are able to run manual backup.
