Question
How can I change the dimension display mode in IBM Cognos Planning Contributor Rich Client similar to how it was in 8.4?
Answer
Starting with Cognos Planning 10.1.1 - FP7, we`ve reintroduced a deprecated feature from 8.4 version, namely an option to select how the d-lists are displayed in Rich Client, for all applications.
This feature will allow users to specify the dimension display mode for each Contributor Application via the Contributor Administration Console (CAC) tool.
Users will be able to specify the dimension display mode for each Contributor Application via the Contributor Administration Console (CAC) tool (Figure 1). Two settings are available:
- the display mode for regular dimensions (non-Time Dimensions)
- the display mode for Time Dimensions
Figure 1: Location for the two settings in CAC, under Grid Options
The 'display mode' setting for regular dimensions (non-Time Dimensions) has three possible values:
- Display as List
- Display as Hierarchy
- Automatic (this special option instructs the system to display dimensions according to their intrinsic type: true hierarchy dimensions will display as Hierarchy, whereas dimensions that are not true hierarchies will display as List)
The 'display mode' setting for Time Dimensions has two possible values:
- Display as List
- Display as Hierarchy
The default setting for the two 'display mode' settings above will be 'display as List'. This is required in order to match the current behavior (consequently, users will opt-in for changing the way dimensions are displayed by altering the above settings).
In respect to the 'Automatic' display option above, a 'true hierarchy' dimension is a dimension that meets the following requirements:
- it must not be a Time Dimension (Automatic only applies to non-time dimensions)
- it must contain only simple sums
- it may contain calculated adjustments (such as weighted averages etc.)
- it may contain calculation priorities
- it may contain formatting
