Custom widgets not displaying correctly after migrating to IBM Connections 5.5

Technote (FAQ)

Question

Why are custom widgets not displaying correctly after the system is migrated to IBM Connections 5.5? When you add a custom widget to the middle column of a Community page, the following error occurs:

"This app does not fit in this column. A community owner can move it to another column or remove it from the page."

Cause

New required attribute introduced in Connections 5.5.

Answer

IBM Connections 5.5 has introduced a new parameter for widgets for communities:

    themes="wpthemeThin wpthemeNarrow wpthemeWide wpthemeBanner"

This new attribute introduced is a required field to correctly display the custom widget. To resolve the problem, add the new attribute to the widget definition.

Sample widget definition:

    <widgetDef defId="HelloWorld" primaryWidget="false" modes="view fullpage edit search" url="{contextRoot}/comm.widgets/helloWorld/HelloWorld.xml?version={version}" themes="wpthemeThin wpthemeNarrow wpthemeWide wpthemeBanner">
    </widgetDef>
