Question

What needs to be done to migrate a FastBack Server to a different system?

Answer

Follow these steps to move an existing FastBack Server to a new system:
A. Login to the FastBack Manager on the original system.
B. Abort DR Replication and wait for it to stop.

    Configuration > General Configuration > DR Configuration > Abort DR
C. Abort Cleanup and wait for it to stop.
    Configuration > Maintenance > 'Immediate cleanup operations' > Cancel Run
D. Remove the repository from the FastBack Server using these steps:
    1. Relogin in Technician Mode:
      File > Login As
      'User Name' Technician
      'Password' (Super user account password. Default is admin123)

      WARNING:
      Technician Mode disables several safety features.
      Use extreme caution when logged in as the Technician account.

    2. Configuration > General Configuration > Storage Pool
    3. In the right hand pane:
      a. If the repository location is on a folder:
        Right click on the location in the upper right hand window and select:
        Remove from repository'.
      b. If the repository location is on a disk or volume:
        Right click on the location in the lower right hand window and select:
        'Remove from repository'.
E. Shutdown the original FastBack Server system.
F. Backup the DR configuration file if DR is configured.
    Default locations:
    NOTE: 'Application Data' and 'ProgramData' are hidden directories.

    Windows 2003:
    C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\dr\FastBackDR.ini
    Windows 2008 / 2012:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\dr\FastBackDR.ini
G. Attach the repository storage to the new FastBack Server system and ensure the storage locations
    mapped to the same position they were on the old system. ie E:\ is still E:\, etc.
H. Install the FastBack software and reboot.
I. Stop the FastBack Server service and set its 'Startup type' to 'disabled'.
J. Copy the following files from the root of one of the repository locations into the FastBack Server's
    server directory.

    1. Conf.txt and Conf.txt.sig
    2. History.txt and History.txt.sig
    3. Inprogress.txt and Inprogress.txt.sig
    4. Orabr_Conf.txt and Orabr_Conf.txt.sig
    5. State.txt and State.txt.sig
    6. Users_enc.txt and Users_enc.txt.sig

    Default locations:
    NOTE: 'Application Data' and 'ProgramData' are hidden directories.

    Windows 2003:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Tivoli\TSM
      \Fastback\Server
    Windows 2008 / 2012:
    C:\ProgramData\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\Server

K. If the FastBackDR.ini file was backed up in step F, copy it to the FastBack installation directory.
    Default locations:
    "NOTE: 'Application Data' and 'ProgramData' are hidden directories.

    Windows 2003:
    C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\dr\FastBackDR.ini
    Windows 2008 / 2012:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Tivoli\TSM\FastBack\dr\FastBackDR.ini

L. Restart the FastBack Server service and set its 'Startup type' to 'automatic'.
M. 'Claim' the repository using these steps:
    1. Start the FastBack Manager and login.
    2. Configuration > General Configuration > Storage Pool > Repository Pool > Right click
      > 'Claim repository'
    3. Browse to the repository directory on the storage sub-system.
N. Run the FastBackClient Configurator on each client to update the IP address it uses to connect to
    the FastBack Server.
