Is it possible to update Gauge and Characteristic meter readings in Maximo ?

Question & Answer

Question

Is there a way to correct an erroneously entered meter reading for a Gauge or Characteristic type meter in Maximo?

Cause

Mistakes with date or reading keyed in to meter Reading for an asset or location will happen and there needs to be a way to update these via a Maximo application.

In the Maximo Asset and Locations application's Select Action menu – Manage Meter Reading History, there is a READONLY Characteristic and Gauge Meter Readings tab.
This tab is used to allow users to view Characteristic and Gauge Meter readings.
But users are not able to use this dialog box to update the Characteristic and Gauge Meter Readings.

Answer

The Manage Meter Reading History function can be used to update Continuous type meter readings only.

There is no reason to have to edit / update the history of a Characteristic and Gauge Meter Readings because they are not cumulative. If an incorrect reading was entered, you can modify it with the two options below:

1. You can add a new meter reading for the Characteristic and Gauge meter in the Asset or Locations application's select action menu.

2. If there is a condition monitoring point associated to the asset / location, then the Characteristic and Gauge meter reading can be deleted.

Steps to use the condition monitoring to delete a Characteristic or a Gauge meter reading for an asset:
1. Go to Condition Monitoring application bring up a point (e.g. 1002 in a demo).
You should see an asset (e.g. asset =11450) associated with this condition monitoring point. This asset has a meter (e.g. O-PRESSUR) with a meter type of GAUGE.
2. Go to Asset application bring up the asset (11450).
3. From select action menu, select Enter Meter Reading. In the new reading field enter 5000. Then tab out and click OK to close the dialog box.
4. Go to Condition Monitoring application, bring up Point 1002 again.
In the Measurements Section you should see an entry for the last reading you entered of 5000.
5. Now delete that reading and Save the record.
6. Go back to the Asset application bring up the asset 11450.
7. Go to select action menu, select the Manage Meter Reading History. Click on Characteristic and Gauge Meter Reading tab, You will notice that your reading of 5000 is also removed.

Deleting the meter reading from Condition Monitoring application which removes it from the Characteristic and Gauge tab is also updates the last reading field in the Asset application.
