IBM Support

Enabling timestamps to appear when using the Client command line interface

Question & Answer

Question

Is it possible to display date/time lines when using the Tivoli Storage Manager client CLI (dsmc) during a backup or restore operation in order to monitor its progression better ?

Answer

It is sometimes useful to see the date and time when using the Tivoli Storage Manager Client command line "dsmc" for backup and restore purposes, similar to what is seen within the Tivoli Storage Manager Client log file (dsmerror.log/dsmsched.log) .

Normally, when you use the command line, either manually from the operating system or from a script or batch file, no date and time information is seen during the progression of the operations.

In order to display both date and timestamps when using the command line (dsmc), simply add the following row into the Client option file (dsm.opt):

TESTFLAGS CLCTIMESTAMP

Save the file and start again the CLI (dsmc) to get these changes implemented.
