Question & Answer
Question
What is the correct user response if ANR3497W messages are displayed in the Tivoli Storage Manager activity log?
Cause
If your server level is earlier than 7.1.1.200, the activity log might report the ANR3497W message for the following conditions:
- If a table requires reorganization, the following message is displayed:
ANR3497W, "Reorganization is required on table <table name>. The reason code is 1."
- If the indexes for a table require reorganization, the following message is displayed:
ANR3497W, "Reorganization is required on table <table name>. The reason code is 2."
- If an index reorganization with the CLEANUP PAGES ALL option is required on the BF_BITFILE_EXTENTS table, the following message is displayed:
ANR3497W, "Reorganization is required on table BF_BITFILE_EXTENTS. The reason code is 3."
Answer
To resolve the issue, complete the following steps:
1. View the database reorganization technote for servers earlier than 7.1.1.200 by clicking the appropriate link at the end of this document.
2. Follow the instructions in the technote to perform offline reorganization of the tables that are causing issues.
Off line reorganization has the following impact on ANR3497W:
For some period of time ANR3497W will not be issued for the tables that have been off line reorganized.
When the server is started the first time following the off line reorganization, assuming all of the applicable tables were off line reorganized, ANR3497W will not be issued. The conditions for ANR3497W will be checked every 7 days there after.
Alternatively, consider upgrading your server to 7.1.1.200 or later. If you upgrade to 7.1.1.200 or later, online index reorganization is enabled by default, and a reorganization and cleanup process is run automatically on all tables. The DISABLEINDEXREORG and DISABLEREORGCLEANUPINDEX options are deprecated. If you previously set either or both options, and you upgrade the server to 7.1.1.200 or later, the options are silently ignored. Table and index reorganization will occur automatically based on the supported server settings.
If you upgrade your server to 7.1.1.200 or later, see the related link section for instructions on cleaning up the dsmserv.opt file from deprecated options.
