Question & Answer
Question
When registering B/A Clients using Tivoli Storage Manager Operations Center, when the node gets registered, why doesn't the admin also get registered?
Answer
Usually, when you register a Client Node using Tivoli Storage Manager Command Line interface, via "REGISTER NODE" command, both the node and the admin with same name as data owner, are registered.
The same will not happen when adding a node using Operations Center (OC).
Looking at the activity log at the time of register node executed via OC we will see that "userid" field is automatically set to NONE as for the following example:
tsm: TSM71WIN2K8>q act begint=-00:05 search=reg
Date/Time Message
-------------------- ----------------------------------------------------------
07/21/2015 14:45:18 ANR2017I Administrator IBM-OC-TSM71WIN2K8 issued command:
REGISTER NODE RAFFABO ?***? USERID=NONE TYPE=CLIENT
AUTHENTICATION=LOCAL DOMAIN=STANDARD CONTACT=Raffaela
DEDUPLICATION=SERVERONLY SSLREQUIRED=DEFAULT (SESSION:
734431)
07/21/2015 14:45:18 ANR2060I Node RAFFABO registered in policy domain
STANDARD. (SESSION: 734431)
This is working as designed.
When the Add Client wizard was designed, it was determined that it wasn't typical to create a Tivoli Storage Manager administrative ID of the same name.
It was decided that the typical case is for a single administrative ID to be given authority to act on behalf of the nodes.
As an example, the help desk would act on behalf of a user trying to restore a file.
