Enabling SSL for SMTP Outbound results in message delivery failure report

Problem

After administrator enabled SSL for SMTP Outbound , Notes user failed to send internet mail and got a Delivery Failure Report mail.

Symptom

Administrator had server setuped to enable SSL for SMTP Outbound in the server document as shown in following picture,

Delivery Failure Report includes following error message:

SMTP Protocol Returned a Permanent Error 554 5.7.1 <mail.xxx.yyy.com[1.1.1.1]>: Client host rejected: Access denied

Delivery Failure Report

Your message: Subject
was not delivered to: <zzz@xxx.yyy.com>
because: Error transferring to mail.xxx.yyy.com; SMTP Protocol Returned a Permanent Error 554 5.7.1 <mail.xxx.yyy.com[1.1.1.1]>: Client host rejected: Access denied.

Cause

The destination SMTP server has been setuped to enable SSL for SMTP Inbound, while destination SMTP server do not accept anonymous connection.

Domino 8.5.2 FP2 32-bit on Windows 2008 R2 64-bit

Diagnosing the problem

The error message below appears in the Delivery Failure Report mail.
Error transferring to mail.xxx.yyy.com; SMTP Protocol Returned a Permanent Error 554 5.7.1 <mail.xxx.yyy.com[1.1.1.1]>: Client host rejected: Access denied

Resolving the problem

In one customer case, the problem can be resolved by disabling SSL for SMTP Outbound (Ports - Internet Ports - Mail) in Server document. Restarting server is required.
