"Error 1067: The Process terminated unexpectedly." when starting Application Server Service

Problem(Abstract)

SiteProtector Application Server service fails to start with "Error: 1067: The Process terminated unexpectedly."

Symptom

The SiteProtector Console would not connect to the SiteProtector Application Server. When verifying the status of the SiteProtector Application Server service, it is found as not running.

When trying to start the service, it fails to start and a pop-up with the following error is displayed:

Windows could not start the SiteProtector Application Server Service service on Local Computer.
Error: 1067: The Process terminated unexpectedly.


Diagnosing the problem

In the Windows Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application, you will see the following error:

Event ID 4096, issSPAppService – Error Level - The Java Virtual Machine has exited with a code of 1, the service is being stopped.
Event ID 18456, MSSQLSERVER – Information Level – Login failed for user ‘IssApp’. Reason : Password did not match that for the login provided. [CLIENT: X.X.X.X]

In the Geronimo Logs (for instructions see Technote 1679804: SiteProtector Application Server manual debug logs):

ERROR [MCFConnectionInterceptor] Error occurred creating ManagedConnection for handle: nullManagedConnectionInfo: org.apache.geronimo.connector.outbound.ManagedConnectionInfo@d82a6509. mc: null]
javax.resource.spi.ResourceAllocationException: Unable to obtain physical connection to jdbc:jtds:sqlserver://SITEPROTECTOR_NAME:1433/RealSecureDB;ssl=off
Caused by:
java.sql.SQLException: Login failed for user 'IssApp'.
ERROR [GBeanInstanceState] Error while starting; GBean is now in the FAILED state: abstractName="iss/SiteProtector/1.0/car?J2EEApplication=iss/SiteProtector/1.0/car,j2eeType=GBean,name=SP_Persistence"
java.sql.SQLException: Login failed for user 'IssApp'.


Resolving the problem
