Error seen in log: MPI_CtxEntLinkLock failed

Troubleshooting


Problem

During regular entity management processing, an error may be seen in the logfile. This technote describes the reason for the error.

Symptom

During entity management, errors similar to the following may be seen:

22:17:57 [00086] ERROR atesystems.hub.logging.NativeLog: MPI_CtxEntLinkLock: entlink record modified by another process.
22:17:57 [00086] ERROR atesystems.hub.logging.NativeLog: MPI_MxmEntUpdate: entType='org', audRecno=xxx, memRecno=yyy, MPI_CtxEntLinkLock failed.
22:17:57 [00086] ERROR atesystems.hub.logging.NativeLog: MPI_CtxError: ERR=EODBC, MSG=audrecno=xxx, memrecno=yyy, srcrecno=zzz, unable to crossmatch member for entType 'org' during MEMUPDATE (EODBC).

Cause

Different subsystems sometimes need to update the same table, such as the mpi_entlink_xx table, during normal processing. Because the table is locked by one process, the other process cannot update it and will report this error.

Resolving The Problem

The error can be considered more of a warning than a problem because the system is designed to automatically retry the transaction if this error is encountered. "(retrying)" will be seen in the log. It is usually safe to ignore this error.
