FlashCopy Manager Prerequisite Checker fails on AIX platform

Troubleshooting

Problem

FlashCopy Manager Prerequisite Checker can fail on AIX platform where DB2 is installed

Symptom

When running the FlashCopy Manager Prerequisite Checker on AIX system with DB2 installed for verifying that the environment is compliant with the prerequisites for FlashCopy Manager the following error about "fcm.is_vg_layout_check_supported" could be returned in the report:

result.pdfresult.pdf

Cause

The problem is usually caused by an incorrect inactive status of DB2.

Environment

All AIX platforms with DB2 installed.

Diagnosing The Problem

Check the logs created by the FlashCopy Manager Prerequisite Checker and verify that you have the following error messages:
FMM6819E No data was obtained from Database Monitor.
FMM6828E Some tablespaces are not in 'NORMAL' state. Snapshot backup is
not possible.
FMM6572E Error code 2 was returned from shell command
'/opt/tivoli/tsm/fcmprereqchecker/fcmprereqcheckerutil -f collect_db_data -u db2tct -l /opt/tivoli/tsm/fcmprereqchecker/logs/logfile -d TCT -y '.

Resolving The Problem

Ask the database administrator to verify if the DB2 database is inactive and to activate it. Usually a DB2 stop and restart should solve the situation.
