BME-EX-0047 Error When Opening Framework Manager Model

Troubleshooting


Problem

"BME-EX-0047 Unable to read preferences for the requested interface" message when trying to open a FM model that was working previously or when creating a new one.

Symptom

When opening or creating a Framework Manager model the following error is displayed:

"BME-EX-0047 Unable to read preferences for the requested interface"

Replacing the bmt.ini file with a known valid backup does not resolve this issue.

Cause

Security is tightened in Windows 7 when applications are installed in C:\Program Files (x86). Even a user with local administrator privileges may experience this error.

Resolving The Problem

You have two options:

  1. Ensure that permissions are opened up completely in C:\Program Files (x86) with assistance from your domain administrators; or,
  2. Uninstall Framework Manager from C:\Program Files (x86) and install it into a new folder structure like C:\IBM\Cognos
