Troubleshooting


Problem

Using Windows client to backup a mixed GPFS file system ( file system on Unix/Linux and windows) can fail.

Symptom

Windows client backup of GPFS file system in a mixed GPFS ( file system on Linux and windows) can fail. You may see the following errors in client service trace:

fioRead(): Calling Open Mechanism for blocktype 44 ...
GPFSAttrOpen(\\nucpfcrmxf01\s$\test.txt): Entry.
: mapGPFScode(): gpfsRC = 45, retcode = -1

Environment

Tivoli Storage manager windows client backing up GPFS file system in a environment where it file system is shared on Windows and Linux systems

Diagnosing The Problem

Collect client service trace of the failing backup. In the trace you may see this error:

mapGPFScode(): gpfsRC = 45, retcode = -1.

The gpfsRC=45 translates into

#define GPFS_EOPNOTSUPP   45      /* Operation not supported */

Resolving The Problem

When Gpfs file system is on both Windows and Linux systems, you must backup the file system using client on Unix or Linux system
