InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog: Adding asset types, their assets, and their data flows into the catalog

Question & Answer

Question

How do I add new asset types, their assets and icons, and their data flows into the catalog of IBM InfoSphere Information Catalog?

Answer

Since Version 11.3.1.2 RU 16, you can extend the model of InfoSphere Information Governance Catalog and add asset types and metadata from other products to give a holistic representation of those assets in the catalog. The main reason to add new asset types is to enrich your lineage reports.

For details, see this document: bundle_assets_IGC.pdf

See the attached files for examples and templates of the format to use to register new asset types and import their assets and data flows into the catalog.

flow_v1_0.xsdflow_v1_0.xsd XML Schema for validating imports of assets and flows. There is a significant overlap between the format of asset- and flow import XMLs. Having one superset schema makes it easier to build code that can be reused for both, when employing XSD-generated libraries such as with JAXB.
