Troubleshooting
Problem
Operations Center initialization phase might fail on the server database space requirements.
Symptom
During configuration of the Tivoli Storage Manager Operations Center, the following message maybe displayed reporting not enough database space available:
ANRG0171E Estimated database space XX GB of XX GB free space required
Cause
Higher refresh rate was set than intended
Diagnosing The Problem
Use the "Tivoli Storage Manager Operations Center sizing tool".
The tool gathers some basic information about your environment and provides recommendations about the memory, CPU, and space requirements for running Operations Center.
Resolving The Problem
The estimation of how much database space is required is mainly based on the amount of clients that will be managed and the Operations Center Refresh Rate parameter
Database Space: The Operations Center uses approximately 1.2 GB of database space for each 1000 clients monitored on a server. For example, consider a hub server that has 2000 clients registered to it and manages three spoke servers, each with 1500 clients. This is a total of 6500 clients across those four TSM servers and requires approximately 8.4 GB of database space. This value is calculated by rounding the 6500 clients up to the next closest 1000, which is 7000. (7 x 1.2 GB=8.4 GB.)
Having for example an Operations Center version 7.1 that will manage 1000 Client Nodes and that is set with a refresh rate of 5 minutes, the amount of database space required will be 2 GB.
The result is obtained dividing the amount of database space required for 1000 Client Nodes that is 10 GB divided by the refresh rate that it's 5 minutes, so the result is 2 GB.
To display the current Operations Center Refresh Rate parameter use the command:
