Problem
The VM backup fails at the snapshot phase with return code 1939
Symptom
The error seen in the client datamover node dsmerror.log will be :
ANS9365E VMware vStorage API error for virtual machine 'xxxx'.
TSM function name : CreateSnapshot_USCORETask
TSM file : vmvisdk.cpp (5259)
API return code : 1939
API error message : An error occurred while quiescing the virtual machine. See the virtual machine's event log for details.
Cause
NTP service was not active on the ESXi host
Diagnosing The Problem
In addition to the above error seen in the client, a snapshot error will be seen in the vCenter log :
"The guest OS has reported an error during quiescing. The error code was: 4 The error message was: Quiesce aborted."
Resolving The Problem
Activate NTP on all hosts in the environment when this is required.
