Memory Leak when opening Cognos Application Server Configuration

Troubleshooting

Problem

When opening the configuration of a Cognos application server component a memory leak occurs - this results in an error message. This issue occurs in UNIX/Linux.

Symptom

Unable to open Cognos Configuration for that component.

After running the command './cogconfig.sh' the following error occurs:

"Using /usr/java/latest/bin/java
There is insufficient memory for the Java Runtime Environment to
continue.
Cannot create GC thread. Out of system resources.
An error report file with more information is saved as:
<cognos-directory>/bin64/<file-name>.log"

Inspecting the memory usage of the system should confirm that memory is low.

Inspecting the running processes should show that a number of DMController processes are running.

Cause

There is an unnecessary content store service being started. This was unintentionally installed during product installation. It is initialising the DMController processes.

Environment

UNIX/Linux

Resolving The Problem

Uninstall the Derby Content Store.

Details of how to do so can be found below.
