How to install and configure IBM Rational DOORS HP Quality Center Interface 3.6 for compatibility with the Rational DOORS 64-bit client

Question & Answer

Question

How do you install IBM Rational DOORS HP Quality Center Interface (HPQCI) 3.6.0.0 on a 64-bit operating system and configure it for compatibility with the Rational DOORS versions 9.6, 9.6.0.1, or 9.6.1 64-bit client?

Cause

HPQCI installs as 32-bit application on 64-bit operating systems and it searches for Rational DOORS registry entries in LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\TELELOGIC instead of LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\TELELOGIC.

This issue was identified as a product defect and logged internally as defect 9736.

Answer

You can install HPQCI 3.6.0.0 on the Windows Server 2008 64-bit operating system. Windows Server 2008 R2 is not supported with the 64-bit Rational DOORS client. You can configure HPQCI for compatibility with the Rational DOORS versions 9.6, 9.6.0.1 and 9.6.1 64-bit client. In this procedure, you create and modify registry keys and values for Rational DOORS 9.6 and the integration, and then install and register a 64-bit version of the SoapWrapper dll.

Note: In the following steps, the Rational DOORS 9.6, 9.6.0.1, or 9.6.1 64-bit client is installed in its default directory:
C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\

HPQCI 3.6.0.0 is installed here:
C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\DOORS for HP Quality Center Interface\3.6

If these programs are not installed in the default directories, you need to use their actual installation directories in these steps.

Before you begin:

Contact IBM Support team to request a copy of the 64-bit compatible SoapWrapper dll.

Back up the Windows registry before you do these steps.

Procedure:

  1. Install the Rational DOORS 64-bit client.

  2. Open a command window and navigate to C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\bin.

  3. To register the Rational DOORS client executable file, type doors.exe /regserver and press Enter.

  4. To open the Registry Editor, click Start > Run and type regedit.

  5. Create these registry keys and values:
    1. Create a registry key “Telelogic” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node
    2. Create a registry key “DOORS” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Telelogic
    3. Create a registry key “9.6” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Telelogic\DOORS
    4. Create a registry key “Config” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Telelogic\DOORS\9.6
    5. Create a string value “Home” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Telelogic\DOORS\9.6\Config
and set the data of this Home value to C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\

  6. Install the HPQCI 3.6.0.0 server or client.
    1. During the HPQCI server installation, do not check the Launch the configuration tool option.
    2. Click Finish.

  7. Copy dxl folder from this directory C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\lib and paste it in this directory: C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\lib

  8. When you are prompted to overwrite dxl folder, click Yes.

  9. To run the Set Access Permissions tool, click Start > All Programs > IBM Rational > IBM Rational Tools > IBM Rational DOORS for HP Quality Center Interface 3.6 Tools > Set Access Permissions. Complete the configuration instructions that are presented in the tool and click Finish.
Note: The Set Access Permission tool is not available for the HPQCI client.

  10. To open the Registry Editor, click Start > Run and type regedit.

  11. Create or modify these registry values:
    1. Go to registry key LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Telelogic\TDIntegration and locate the string value DOORSHOME. It may have a data value of C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6. Set the data for this value to C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\
    2. Create a registry key “TDIntegration” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Telelogic
    3. Create string value “DoorsHome” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Telelogic\TDIntegration. Set the data for this value to C:\Program Files\IBM\Rational\DOORS\9.6\
    4. Create the string value “InstallationDirectory” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Telelogic\TDIntegration. Set the data for this value to C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\DOORS for HP Quality Center Interface\3.6\
    5. Create a registry key “WebService” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Telelogic\TDIntegration.
    6. Create string value “WebServiceInstallDir” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Telelogic\TDIntegration\WebService. Set the data for this value to C:\inetpub\wwwroot\DOORSTDIServices
    7. Create string value “WebServiceVirtualPath” under LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Telelogic\TDIntegration\WebService. Set the data for this value to http://<HPQCIServer:port>/DOORSTDIntegrationWebServices/integrationwebservice.asmx

  12. Open a command window and navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\DOORS for HP Quality Center Interface\3.6

  13. To unregister 32-bit SoapWrapper.dll, enter this command: regsvr32 /u SoapWrapper.dll

  14. In this 3.6 directory, create a directory named x64:
C:\Program Files (x86)\IBM\Rational\DOORS for HP Quality Center Interface\3.6\x64

  15. Place the 64-bit compatible SoapWrapper.dll that you received from Support in this directory.

  16. To register 64-bit SoapWrapper.dll, navigate to this directory and enter this command: regsvr32 SoapWrapper.dll

  17. To restart IIS, enter this command: iisreset

  18. Install the HP Quality Center Interface administration console.
