IBM Support

How to increase default timeout of 10 minutes during TEMS start/stop?

Troubleshooting

Problem

TEMS takes more than 10 minutes to stop and displays message: KCIIN2513E TEMS service is still pending stop. Check ITM documentation for more details.

Diagnosing The Problem

Get the following message when trying to stop TEMS:

Stop command: /opt/IBM/ITM/bin/itmcmd server stop Hub_TEMS

Message:
Stopping TEMS...
It can take up to ten minutes.
KCIIN2513E TEMS service is still pending stop. Check ITM documentation for more details.

Then TEMS stops after some time on its own.

Resolving The Problem

The TEMS can take a long time to stop/start (i.e. take time greater than 10 minutes) in either of the following cases:

>>If you have a large or complicated infrastructure connected to the
Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server.
>>If you have a remote Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server, but the
hub Tivoli Enterprise Monitoring Server is offline.

The timeout value is hard-coded in the Java class. This value can not be modified.

Therefore, the TEMS stop may take time more than 10 minutes in an environment due to large infrastructure/load on TEMS, but it will eventually stop successfully if no error message is output.
