"BMXAA7993E - This report cannot be edited because one or more security groups have access to this report..."

Question & Answer

Question

Why can't users edit QBR reports?

Answer

A user may encounter an error message when they try to edit a qbr report:

"BMXAA7993E - This report cannot be edited because one or more security groups have access to this report. Contact your system administrator to request all security group access to the report to be removed."

To resolve this popup, you need to understand the key property file for QBR editing. This system property is mxe.report.adhoc.editWithGroupAccess, and it is set to "0" , or "false" out of the box. This property determines if your users can edit their QBR reports, if they have granted other users access to them. This also includes the "Public" security access granted to the EVERYONE security groups.

This property can be found under the System Properties application. Simply navigate to this application and use filter to locate "mxe.report.adhoc.editWithGroupAccess".

If you created a QBR report, then enabled "Public" security field, this gives EVERYONE in security group access to run the QBR report you created. If the setting is left at "=0", you will receive the aforementioned warning/popup.

Since this setting is configurable, you can either leave it as "=0", because you do not wish other users, who also have access to this report, to modify it. Or you can change it to "=1", save. update, and this will give the users the ability to modify the report.

Another option where you want a user to modify their report, but want to leave the property setting at its
default value, you could always duplicate the QBR report in the Report Administration application, and not assign any security groups access to it.
