Problem
The message ANR1049W can be reported in the activity log after installation of Tivoli Storage Manager Server on UNIX systems
Symptom
After the installation of the Tivoli Storage Manager Server on a new UNIX system the following message can be reported in the activity log and in the output of some commands like "query license" or "query status":
ANR1049W The server is unable to obtain number-formatting information from the system-locale attributes. The server substitutes alternate number format 1 (1,000.00).
Cause
The warning message is caused by an incorrect setting of the UNIX locale where the Tivoli Storage Manager Server has been installed.
Diagnosing The Problem
The "locale -a" output could be reviewed. If the warning message is reported it is highly probable that the en_US language support is not installed on the system.
For example the following output could be displayed
$ locale -a
C
POSIX
en_US.8859-15
en_US.ISO8859-1
$
In the above output the en_US language support is missing and this condition lead to the warning message displayed in the Tivoli Storage Manager's activity log.
In the installation's Guide the following prerequisite must be met:
The system must have en_US environment support installed.
So for the "locale -a" command the expected and correct output must be
$ locale -a
C
POSIX
en_US.8859-15
en_US.ISO8859-1
en_US
$
Where the en_US language support is correctly installed.

Resolving The Problem
Contact the system administrator for installing en_US language support on the system then restart the Tivoli Storage Manager Server.
